Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your wedding theme/style?

I wanted to be able to look back at my wedding and think how timeless and classic it was. Nothing says staple style as much as a black and white color palette, so we went with black and white stationary, a checkered dance floor and gorgeous bridesmaids dresses from Birdy Grey.

I am still gushing over the florals and am so glad we went with simple bud vases filled with white roses and candles. I love how all the candles really created an ambiance that carried us from dinner all the way to the end of the night.

Were there any special personal touches or DIY elements you incorporated into your wedding?

My father passed away about a year before my wedding, so I really wanted to honor him in the special moments I had so looked forward to as a little girl. I walked myself down the aisle, with a pin on my bouquet with a picture of us. I had a live artist paint me while I was walking down the aisle and she was able to include a photo of my dad in the painting. The finished piece came out absolutely stunning and is everything I could have hoped for.

What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?

I absolutely loved that we did a private last dance, it was truly such a special moment for us to just really look around and soak in such an amazing, unforgettable night. This was hands down my favorite moment of the night, besides finally saying I do, of course!

Were there any unexpected surprises or funny moments?

I don’t know about you all, but I love a good late night snack, especially after a night filled with dancing. We were so excited to have an ice cream cart with warm cookies at the end of the night, funny enough…we didn’t get ANY! We were having such a great time we didn’t realize the cart had come and gone! We really were looking forward to it and hope everyone else enjoyed it for us.

Do you have any advice for other brides-to-be planning their weddings?

We spend so much time, energy, and not to mention money, on planning weddings, my advice would be to really carve out time to enjoy all the little details and moments you put so much effort into planning. Whether that’s setting aside time to listen to a song, or see the reception space and details with your new spouse.
